I had the opportunity to be interviewed on London, Ontario’s AM980’s Andrew Lawton show recently to talk about some of the great things food retailers are already doing to manage their food so that more of goes to feeding people. People often point an accusatory finger at food retailers, whether that be grocery stores or restaurants, and suggest they should be doing more. Well, I think we can all be doing more. I present a few examples of businesses already doing their part such as the London Convention Centre and Western University’s Hospitality Services. These programs to move unused meals along has been developed with little fanfare and well before the current interest in food waste reduction. Rather than pointing accusatory fingers we should shine lights on successful programs, recognizing them as templates that others can adopt.
